Program Description

Program Description

Activity abounds for these ever-moving and inquisitive children. Language acquisition accelerates as teachers encourage communication and provide materials and situations to promote language development. The Senior teachers enrich the exciting, action-packed themes that four-year-olds favor by supporting needed accessories and materials throughout all areas of the curriculum. Everything from art to blocks to dramatic play provides opportunity for the children’s imaginations to expand.

A portion of the senior children will be attending Kindergarten the following year. As with the Pre-K class, the curriculum addresses the needs of these children to prepare them for Kindergarten. For example, learning games that help in the formation of basic math and language concepts; retelling a story with a beginning, middle and an end; sorting, book-making and more complex crafts; and acquiring readiness skills. Our teachers are skilled and have a lot of experience with how four-year-olds best learn and gear their learning to their group’s present development.

Group play comes into its own in the Senior Program as the children build friendships and enjoy more involved play. Opportunities are carefully set up for the children to play and work cooperatively.

Four year olds are experiencing a year of tremendous intellectual growth, as well as feeling the need for beginning independence. The Senior Program encourages and enhances both areas while profiting this stimulating curriculum in a nurturing environment.

Extended days:

Mondays: The children engage in arts and creative expression through painting, drawing, music and more. Children can actively engage in imagination through storytelling, puppet making and play. Many of these projects are extended over several days according to the interest of the children.

Fridays: The children engage in outdoor exploration. We explore, discover and appreciate the natural world. We go on marsh walks and observe local trees as seasons change, press collected flowers, go on scavenger hunts, learn fun natural facts and see the world from a different perspective. This teaches our children to appreciate the world around them.
